Marfa, Texas is a one-of-a-kind desert town where old frontier spirit meets modern creativity. Founded in the 1880s as a water stop for the railroad, Marfa has grown into an internationally known arts destination while keeping its rugged West Texas roots. The town gained fame when the classic movie Giant was filmed here in the 1950s, starring Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, and James Dean. Today, Marfa draws visitors from around the world to experience its minimalist art installations, boutique galleries, and the mysterious Marfa Lights, which dance across the desert sky just outside of town.
